Biography of Shihan Villalobos to present. Sensei Miguel Villalobos was born September 29,1954 in the State of Jalisco Mex. Emigrated with her mother and brothers to California, at very young age to join his father living in California, his father a World War 2 veteran. Villalobos Shihan grew up and made his home Santa Barbara, CA he's love for Karate in that young age. He started training back in 1969 in traditional karate at the age of 14 years old in the style Shoto-kan Karate. He attended local schools, and by 1972 attended local College where he joined the Goju Ryu club at College and continued his training in Shoto-kan until March of 1974 and by April of 1974 he joined (PKI) Pacific Karate Do Institute when PKI was just founded by Sensei David Krieger where Sensei Villalobos learned Shito Ryu Karate under excellent tutelage and restricted guidance from Sensei David Krieger and earned his black belt in Tani-ha Shito Ryu (Shuko-Kai) and Kotaka-ha (Kuniba's) Shito Ryu a direct lines to link Kenwa's Mabuni Shito Ryu. Sensei David Krieger studied Shito Ryu in Kobe, Japan in 1963 under Master Chojiro Tani (Shuko-Kai) direct student of Kenwa Mabuni where he earned his black belt under Master Chojiro Tani. Years later Mr. Krieger Sensei and Mr. Chuzo Kotaka Sensei both traveled from Japan to Hawaii where both Sensei Krieger and Sensei Kotaka co-founded the International Karate Federation in Hawaii. Sensei Villalobos taught Shito Ryu Karate in the YMCA of Santa Barbara, in the mid 70s for five years and also at Goleta, girls Club for two years, Sensei Villalobos was a Senior Rank at the Pacific Karate Do Institute with the rank of yondan (4th dan) and also helped assisting class for his Sensei at the Montecito, dojo headquarters. And he was top tournament competitor through 70s and through the mid 80s. In the spring of 1980 with help from sensei David Krieger, Villalobos Sensei, moved to Santa Maria, California where he opened his dojo at the Minami Community Center where he is currently teaching and has taught for the passed 25 years at this same dojo location. By March of 1997 he was accepted as a direct student of Soke Kenzo Mabuni where he received his teaching license (Shihan title) from Soke Kenzo Mabuni. He also was accepted into the Shihan Kai where he is currently a member of the Shito Ryu USA Shihan Kai. On July of 2005 Sensei Villalobos was promoted for the Rank of 7th dan by his sensei Soke Kenzo Mabuni. Sensei Villalobos trained intensively through out the USA supporting and learning Soke Kenzo Mabuni's Seito Shito Ryu including Sensei Villalobos home town State of California, also he has been in Osaka Japan, the birth place of Shito Ryu Karate. Sensei Villalobos has been well known for taking and producing successful International Karate Athletes to Shito Ryu Karate World Championships including the Shito Ryu Karate World Championships in Osaka, Japan. On July 30th of 2005 Shihan Villalobos was inducted into The United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
